What is 550 paracord or as it commonly called; parachute cord was used in World War II as the means for attaching the body to the parachute. It is made of nylon and comes in different sizes and can be used for almost any type of tying things together. During the war the paratroopers carried lengths of this for other necessary things. Being light weight it is also strong. It comes in various thicknesses depending on the strength that you need. The cord can be bought at stores and on line for civilians to use. It is really a multipurpose line that comes in handy when doing things outdoors.
